THE Group of European Savings Banks, Banks and Related Institutions Retired Staff has called the eighth €uromeeting. It will take place on the 20th-27th. April in Peñíscola (Castellón). This town is placed in the Spanish Costa del Azahar, on the North of the Spanish region called Comunidad Valenciana. The name of this coast comes from the orange tree flowers that grow all around this area. This place takes advantage of a warm Mediterranean climate, in which extreme temperatures, even in winter, are mild. The city of Peñíscola was declared to be a Collection of Historic and Artistic Buildings in 1972 by the Spanish Education and Science Ministry.

Peñíscola, which means “Sea town”, is placed on a little rocky peninsula, about a 1000 meter high, that comes into the sea. The old town is settled on said peninsula, and it is protected by medieval walls that surround it partially; the big sheers of the Southern region close up the defending circle of the town. From the whole extension of the place, about 17 kilometres run along the sea: on the Northern region it runs along enormous beaches made of fine sand, and on the South region it runs along little and beautiful coves and rough sheers. The Castle of Papa Luna (Benedict XIII) is placed on the top area of the hill of the rocky crag, which is situated at about 64 meters over the sea level. Said castle was built between the years 1294 and 1307, although its basements date from the Arabic times. Since 1922 it has been considered to be a National Historic and Artistic Monument.

During the General Assembly the European Program AGE for the elderly, to which we subscribed after the last meeting, would be presented. The launch of said program will take place this year in Brussels on the 7th. and 8th. of December, where our Group will be represented.
